Requirements for Supervision

Hour Requirements

3,000 Hours of Clinical Practice

Must be completed within 24-48 months

100 Supervision Hours

Required within 24-48 months with a minimum of 4 hours per month

Monthly Maximum

No more than 10 hours of supervision can be counted in any 30-day period

Schedule & Ratio

Frequency

Sessions available weekly—participate 1 hour per week or 2 hours bi-weekly

Supervision Ratio

1 hour of supervision per 40 hours worked (mandated by TSBEC)

Total Time to Complete

100 hours typically takes 24 months for full-time or up to 48 months for part-time workers

Additional Requirements

Monthly Minimum

At least one supervision session per month required, even for part-time workers

Work Requirements

Must work in a clinical setting at least 15 hours per week to qualify

Supervisor Agreement

The Supervisor agrees to provide a total of 100 hours of clinical supervision to the Supervisee over the course of the supervision period, with a monthly minimum of 4 hours supervision conducted by the Supervisor.

Format

Supervision will be conducted via video conference or phone (if needed), as mutually agreed upon by both parties.

Documentation

The Supervisee must maintain accurate records of supervision hours, which will be tracked and reported by the Supervisor. Work must be consistent with guidelines set forth by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners.

Agency Employment Requirement

Per the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners Supervision Plan, "…who is not employed by LMSW's employing agency, needs to provide a written approval of the supervisory relationship from the employing agency, including a confidentiality agreement and authorization for the LMSW to discuss cases with the supervisor, on the agency's letterhead, dated and signed by an agency representative."
