Find answers to common questions about supervision, licensure
requirements, and how we work together.
"Good clinicians are not made by avoiding hard conversations — they are
made by learning how to have them well."
In Texas, to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), you
must complete 3,000 hours of supervised experience, including 100
hours of face-to-face supervision. At least 50 hours must be with an
LCSW-S (Supervisor). Supervision must occur over a minimum of 24
months. I'm an approved LCSW-S and can provide the supervision hours
you need to meet these requirements.
Individual supervision provides one-on-one attention focused
entirely on your cases, goals, and professional development. Group
supervision allows you to learn from peers, gain diverse
perspectives, and often comes at a lower cost. Both count toward
your licensure hours. I offer both formats to fit your needs and
schedule.
After our free consultation, we'll set up a schedule that works for
both of us. Supervision is conducted virtually, so you can
participate from anywhere in Texas. Sessions are typically weekly or
bi-weekly depending on your needs and hours requirement timeline.
Come prepared with case notes, client updates, and any questions or
challenges you'd like to discuss. The more you bring to supervision,
the more you'll get out of it. I'll help guide you on documentation
and processing your clinical work.
The minimum is 24 months, but the actual timeline depends on your
schedule and how many hours you accumulate weekly. Most supervisees
complete their hours within 2-3 years. We'll create a plan that fits
your timeline and career goals.
Yes! I provide supervision for both LMSWs working toward their
clinical hours and those seeking support for general social work
practice. Whether you're just starting out or preparing for the LCSW
exam, I can support your professional journey.
Life happens! I understand that scheduling conflicts arise. Please
notify me at least 24 hours in advance when possible. We can
reschedule within the month to keep your supervision hours on track.
The same 3,000 hours of supervised experience and 100 hours of
face-to-face supervision are required regardless of whether you work
full-time or part-time. The minimum hours of supervision for
part-time (15 clinical hours a week) is 2-3. However, the timeline
to complete those hours will naturally be longer if you're working
fewer hours per week. The Texas State Board of Social Worker
Examiners requires a minimum of 24 months, but part-time social
workers typically complete licensure in 3-4 years. We'll develop a
pacing plan that aligns with your schedule so you can stay on track
without overwhelm.
Yes. Under Texas Administrative Code Rule §781.403, all Licensed
Master Social Workers (LMSWs) practicing under supervision toward
their LCSW are required to maintain professional liability
insurance, unless covered by their employer's policy. This
requirement is in place to protect both you and your clients during
your clinical practice. If you are employed, verify with your
employer that their liability coverage extends to your supervised
clinical work. If you are in private practice or your employer does
not provide coverage, you must obtain your own professional
liability insurance policy. I recommend maintaining coverage
regardless of your employment status for your own protection
throughout the supervision process.
